Bees Are Important
Honey bees, bumble bees, and wasps are key participants in nature as they help pollinate the plants that make our world wonderful. And that includes the many plants that we harvest for food. It is estimated that one-third of the food eaten by Americans is largely dependent on pollination by honey bees. The United Nations Environment Program has produced a report that states of the 100 crop varieties that provide 90% of the world’s food, 71 are pollinated by bees. A few of these foods are almonds, apples, apricots, broccoli, melons, cranberries, squash, and pumpkins.
Bees collect nectar and pollen from flowering plants. During their collection efforts they unintentionally pollinate the flowering plants. This is the crucial step they provide for our environment. After collection the bees convert the nectar into honey, which is their primary food source for their lives. Honey provides bees with the energy they need for all of their activities.
Anatomy Of A Honey Bee Colony
A honey bee colony is comprised of one queen bee, drones (males), and female worker bees that don’t produce eggs. Worker bees are by far the most numerous in the colony and they provide all of the labor needed to maintain, protect, and rear the young bees. The much less numerous drones will mate with the queen bee and die shortly after mating. The queen bee can live for several years and her job is to lay eggs her entire life.
Safe Live Bee Removal
Our professionally trained beekeepers and technicians will make every effort to safely and humanely remove bees from a location. We do not want to harm them and we wish to relocate the bees to an area when they can live without the problem of human contact.
Beehive Removal
Removing the beehive is the second major task for our professionals. It is much easier to remove bees and beehives in outside locations because we have easy access. But beehives in a structure, such as walls, present a challenge. They should always be removed because the honey and the was will attract other insects or another bee swarm. Property owners do not want other pests chewing their way through walls to obtain honey that is undefended.
In many cases we use thermal imaging to locate the exact position of hidden beehives. Then we will discuss the process of beehive removal with the property owner. Portions of the interior or exterior wall may have to be removed to gain access to the beehive. Replacement and repair of any wall portions will be discussed with the property owner.
